Dr. Ravi Goklaney, MD DLFAPA

Dr. Ravi K. Goklaney is a distinguished and highly respected psychiatrist with over 30 years of experience dedicated to improving the lives of his patients and their families. 

 

As a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Goklaney has been recognized for his lifelong commitment to his patients, the psychiatric profession, and his advocacy for legislative changes that enhance the quality of mental health care.

Leadership and Expertise

Dr. Goklaney serves as the Medical Director of Advanced Medical Psychiatric Services (AMPS), where he oversees a comprehensive range of mental health services, including psychiatric treatment, psychological testing, and individual, couple, and family counseling. His leadership extends to Omni Behavioral Health, where he is committed to serving underprivileged patients in the community, ensuring that quality mental health care is accessible to all.

Academics and Professional Contributions

Throughout his career, Dr. Goklaney has made significant contributions to the field of psychiatry as an educator and leader. He has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA Westwood and UCLA Kern in Bakersfield, CA, where he has trained and mentored the next generation of mental health professionals. His experience as a Medical Director includes roles at Good Samaritan Psychiatric Hospital and Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, as well as his tenure at Kern County Behavioral Health from 1996 to 2010.

Involvement and Advocacy

Dr. Goklaney’s dedication to the psychiatric profession is evident in his extensive involvement with professional organizations. He has served as President of the Central California Psychiatric Society and as an Assembly Member of the American Psychiatric Association. Currently, he chairs multiple committees for the Central California Psychiatric Society and has served on the Behavioral Health Board for Kern County Behavioral Health. His work with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) at the local level as an advisor for the board underscores his commitment to advocacy and education for mental health patients and their families.

Recognition

Dr. Goklaney’s contributions to the community and the field of psychiatry have earned him numerous accolades. Dr. Ravi Goklaney is a Distinguished Lifetime Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He was named CA NAMI Recovery Practitioner of the Year in 2011 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Central California Psychiatric Society (CCPS) in 2015 for his tireless advocacy. He was awarded the Captane Thompson Lifelong Achievement Award in 2015 by CCPS. In 2018, the California State Assembly and Senate recognized him with a Legislature Resolution as Physician of Kern County for his contributions to the Central California and Kern County communities. In recognition of his exceptional ability to foster collaboration and resolve conflicts among his peers, the Central California Psychiatric Society established the “Ravi K. Goklaney, MD Ambassador & Diplomacy Award” in his honor on April 7, 2018. This award highlights his influence in uniting mental health professionals to advocate effectively for patients and the profession. NAMI of Kern County awared Dr. Goklaney with the Adovcate of the Year in 2024.
